Frequently Asked Questions ICM20

About ICM20

  • What is ICM20?

The ICM20 concept is a patented digital measuring system, with which you can quickly, easily and accurately measure up a staircase.

  • How does it work?

Using various tools (‘markers‘) and an application (‘app’) on your smartphone, photos of stair treads and risers are taken. Thanks to an online link to the manufacturer’s systems, the products can be made to measure quickly and accurately via a direct link to the production environment.

  • For whom is the ICM20 intended?

ICM20 is an advanced digital staircase measurement tool for professionals and consumers. The system is used for multiple staircase renovation concepts, by multiple brands and for different types of products.

  • Is the ICM20 app compatible with any smartphone?

The app is compatible with iOS and Android systems.

  • How do I get started with ICM20?

You can download the ICM20 app from the App Store or Google Playstore.

  • Who is behind ICM20?

ICM20 is a product of StairCampus, a Dutch group of family businesses that is exclusively engaged in the development, production and realisation of staircase renovations. ICM20 is marketed by Van Dijk Staircase Solutions. For more information, visit www.vandijk-staircasesolutions.com.

  • What types of stairs can you renovate using ICM20?

With the help of the ICM20 app, you can renovate closed wooden and concrete stairs (with stair noses) with step and riser. The stairs to be renovated must be enclosed between two walls. Unfortunately, renovating open stairs is not (yet) possible.

  • Can I also renovate the sides of my staircase using ICM20?

Yes, this is currently possible to a limited extent, depending on the possibilities of the concept you have chosen.

  • Can I close an open staircase with ICM20?

No, this option is not (yet) available at this time. Please consult a professional for this. If the staircase is closed, you can usually renovate it using ICM20.

  • Working with the ICM20 app

  • I would like to realise a staircase renovation with ICM20. How do I start?

To make a staircase using this system, you must have a QR code from your supplier of staircase renovation products. This can be a shop or an online provider.

  • I have a marker set and a QR code. What now?

Step 1: Scan the QR code with the photo app on your mobile phone. Click on the link in your screen which will redirect you to the website to configure your staircase. Already have an account? Then you can log in directly to your personal environment on the website. You do not need to scan a QR code.

Step 2: On the website you can fill in your details and the details of the project. Configure your staircase accurately and select any options.

Step 3: You will see a new QR code. Scan it before measuring up your stairs. After scanning this QR code, the ICM20 app automatically opens with your project. A QR code but not yet downloaded the ICM20 app? No problem! You will be automatically redirected to the App Store or Google Playstore to proceed.

Step 4: In the ICM20 app you will see a stylised version of your staircase. Select the step you want to measure and follow the instructions.

  • I don't know what to do. How do I proceed?

In many cases you will receive instructions from your supplier, for example via an instruction booklet. Read this through carefully first!

When you start up the ICM20 app, you will also receive a step-by-step explanation of what you need to do for a correct measurement. For additional help, you can use the ‘Information’ button and/or the ‘Video’ button in the app for more information.

  • Analysing my measurement takes a long time. Is this normal?

It may take a few seconds for your measurement to be analysed. Make sure your device has a strong Wi-Fi signal or other Internet connection. This will speed up the process.

  • I don’t have time to finish the measurement at once. What now?

It doesn’t matter if you can’t finish the measurement all at once. When you reopen the app, the measurement will continue from where you left off.

  • I start measuring. What should I pay attention to?

There are three important things to look out for:

    1. Make sure that the staircase is visible in the middle of your screen. You can easily achieve this by focusing the blue dotted line in the middle of your screen on the blue dotted line of the largest fill marker.
    2. Make sure all markers are visible in the clear frame on your phone screen
    3. Make sure that you keep the phone at the correct angle of inclination. On the right side of the screen you will see an indicator. If it is green, you can take a picture.
  • Can I do something wrong during the measurement, so that I will get the wrong products?

No. If the app detects that you are not quite doing something right, you will receive an error message with instructions on what you should do differently. If the photo is ‘technically correct’, it will be checked afterwards by one of our experienced staff.

  • I made a mistake during the measurement. What now?

No problem. You can simply repeat the measurement until you are satisfied.

  • I doubt whether my accepted measurement is correct. What now?

You can check the measurement again by clicking on the corresponding (green) step in the app. The measurement is shown again. If you are satisfied, you can accept the measurement. If you are not satisfied, you can re-measure the step.

  • I see a red step in the app. What is the problem?

When checking and validating the measurements, a step may still be rejected by one of our inspectors. The step then turns red in the app. We will contact you to do the measurement again.

  • How can I check for myself during my measurement if everything is okay?

After taking the photo, the app shows the contours of the measured surfaces. If desired, you can zoom in on the photo to see if all the markers are good and no strange shape is displayed. Satisfied? Click ‘Accept’ and continue measuring. Not satisfied? Click ‘Try again’ and take a new photo of this step.

  • I cannot judge the photo properly because a text is displayed over the photo.

Click on the orange arrow with the point down. The text disappears.

  • Preparation of existing stairs

  • Do I have to remove the existing upholstery from my staircase?

Yes, before starting the measurement, the stair treads should be free of floor cladding, adhesive residues, sealant, staples and/or hair. Remaining adhesive residues should not be thicker than 2 to 3 mm.

  • Is it wise to paint the sides of the stairs?

Yes. Of course, you do not have to do this before measuring the stairs, but it is advisable to have the stringers painted at least 48 hours before installing the stairs. This is in connection with the curing of the stair lacquer.

  • I also want to renovate the side stringers of my stairs. Is this possible?

At this time, this is not yet possible with ICM20. You can of course do this yourself or ask a professional to realise this for you. After the stair stringers have been renovated, you can measure the stairs using the ICM20 app.

  • My existing stairs are quite worn out. What now?

Make sure that you level the worn out steps or have them levelled so that there is no more than 2 to 3 mm difference in height. You can now simply use the ICM20 app to renovate your stairs.

  • Delivery, installation, guarantee & maintenance

  • How long do I have to wait for the delivery of my new stair components?

In normal circumstances, we will send your new staircase no later than three (3) weeks after the order has been placed. We will keep you informed of the order status by email.

  • How are the products delivered?

The new staircase comes complete in cardboard-only packaging. If desired, glue and sealant are also included. The parts are made exactly to measure and numbered, so you can install them quickly and easily.

  • What tools do I need to carry out the staircase renovation?

All materials for the staircase renovation are delivered custom-made. You will need a sealant syringe for gluing and sealing the stairs. In addition, you will also need a sealant spatula, a plant spray or a cup of water and a drop of detergent for sealing off.

  • How long should I allow for the installation of the stairs?

All materials are custom-made so you can install them immediately. The speed depends on your experience and working speed, but usually it is possible to install a staircase within 2 to 3 hours.

  • How should I maintain my new staircase?

The maintenance of the stairs is similar to the maintenance of similar floors. A damp cloth or duster is often enough to keep the stairs clean. For specific maintenance tips, visit your supplier’s or brand’s website.

  • Do I get a guarantee on my new staircase?

Yes. We guarantee that the staircase components – within the size limits set by your supplier – are delivered free of damage and made to measure. For the guarantee of use of the material, we refer you to the guarantee conditions of your supplier or brand.
